NAMI Homefront is a free, six-session class for family, friends and significant others of military Service Members/Veterans with mental health concerns. The class helps families understand what their Service Member/Veteran may be experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, PTSD, reintegration into civilian life and other challenges.
This class is an online class available to anyone. Homefront is a shorter version of Family to Family and targets military family and caregivers who are living with or caring for a military member who is living with a mental illness. These families have unique challenges and increase stigma and this class addresses these issues as well as the vital information the Family to Family class provides.
Topics covered include mental health, communication, handling crises, treatment and recovery.
The program is designed to help family members understand and support their Service Member/Veteran while maintaining their own well-being. NAMI Homefront program leaders have personal experience with mental health conditions impacting their Service Member/Veteran.
Attending an in-person class can be difficult for busy individuals and families. As an alternative, NAMI Homefront online classes meet weekly in a virtual classroom. The online experience offers participants the same level of interaction and learning as traditional in-person classes. Participants must have access to a laptop, PC or tablet with a stable internet connection to participate. The audio portion requires participants to use a landline or cell phone, and we recommend using a headset or earbuds.
Although the class is free, we highly encourage participants to attend all six sessions to benefit the most from the class and from each other. To register, please visit nami.org/Homefront.
