Voices of Recovery

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Presents “Voices of Recovery” - A new video series that promotes September as Recovery Month.

Governor Scott Walker has proclaimed September Recovery Month in Wisconsin, the opportunity to celebrate state residents who have overcome, or are in the process of overcoming, mental illness or substance abuse disorder. To honor them, and to inspire those who are starting the recovery process, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has produced a series of videos featuring state residents who have taken the journey toward recovery.

“You can’t help but be moved and inspired by these firsthand accounts shared in these videos,” said DHS Secretary Kitty Rhoades. “We also know that people who may need help are more apt to take that first step with the encouragement of someone who has been in their shoes.”

In addition to the “Voices of Recovery” video series, DHS is inviting everyone to attend the “Rockin’ Recovery Rally” on September 19 at the State Capitol. The event will feature former Green Bay Packers’ kicker Chester Marcol who will discuss his life, football career, and his own battle to overcome an addiction.

Governor Walker has made services for people with mental illness or substance abuse issues a priority, and DHS is committed to providing help and support to state residents in need with programs like Comprehensive Community Services, Peer Run Respites, Coordinated Service Teams, and many more.

Recovery Month is an annual national observance sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Follow DHS on Twitter for more information on Recovery Month.
