Governance & Field Operations Webinar Series:
Nonprofits and Election Engagement, What Can NAMI Do?
When: February 17, 2016
Time: 1:00 EST
To register, please click on the link below:
https://nami.adobeconnect.com/nonprofitsandelectionengagement/event/registration.html
This is our time. Congress and state legislatures are more focused on mental health now than in recent memory, yet mental illness is in the headlines for reasons NAMI members know to be distorted and destructive. During the 2016 election cycle it is up to us and our allies to change the public conversation, raise awareness of the real issues and build effective relationships with tomorrow’s decision makers.
Even though it is more crucial than ever to drive the public policy debate, many NAMI leaders and members mistakenly assume that it is illegal for non-profits to lobby. In fact, federal laws exist to encourage nonprofit advocacy within specified limits.
Please join Sita Diehl, NAMI’s Director of Policy & State Outreach and Jessica Hart, NAMI’s Manager, Advocacy Communications for a conversation on do’s, don’ts and best practices for nonprofits, elections and NAMI grassroots lobbying.
Learn:
• Definition of lobbying
• What can NAMI do to engage in the election?
• What can NAMI do to advocate generally for public policy change?
• What should NAMI avoid?
• What are some best practices from state organization and affiliates around the country?

Nonprofits and Election Engagement, What Can NAMI Do?
When: February 17, 2016
Time: 1:00 EST

• Q&A
